What have I been doing since 1969? Wow...lots!!!
Teaching kids and teaching teachers for 31 years, volunteering, working on social justice stuff, seeing family and friends, meeting lots of new people from all walks of life, gardening, remodeling my home, hanging out with my two loves - a jack russell terrier and a basenji, traveling all over the USA and several countries, reading and watching movies (a favorite past time). Have been very adventurous - lots of experiences and risks that will give me great memories and stories to tell when I am lounging in a retirement home - probably in Mankato! Love life and all it has to offer.
Currently, I serve as president of the Minneapolis Teacher union - about 3300 teachers. Really political and intense and I feel honored to be in this position. No plans to retire yet!

School Story:

Where to begin....maybe the day we had a wild water pistol fight in Roger Frank's speech class while he was out having a cigarette. Those of us involved were soaking wet but all in our seats sitting quietly when he returned. He looked at us while walking back to his desk and calmly said, "Glad to see you were busy during my absence." And, then we got back to work.

Cindy was always friendly and had a quick laugh. Lots of energy. It was wonderful to read how much she accomplished in life professionally and that a loving family life was at the core of her world. ??

Bravo, Cindy! Ya done good. Rest up then start exploring those other dimensions. Put that curiosity to work. ??

Rest in peace, Connie. We grew up going to Washington Grade School together and sometimes playing in our neighborhood. You were shy and quiet but sweet and quick to smile. Enjoy your next journey. ??

Some of my favorite memories of high school are thanks to Mark. He was so fun and funny...a really nice guy who also enjoyed being a bit of a trickster. He got me in trouble all the time in chemistry class because I couldn't stop laughing at his antics and he liked seeing me get called on by the teacher. All in all, a smart, kind, talented guy. Have fun on your next journey, Mark. Condolences to Teresa and family.

Starting in kindergarten at Washington Elementary, Margaret became a staple in our lives. And, several of us were also Campfire Girls with her in the same troop. She was more mature than most of us and provided role modeling for us. I always looked to her with awe and respect.

It was clear to everyone that Margaret was one of THE smartest in our classes all the way through grade school, Franklin Junior High, and MHS. While at Washington, a teacher (I think sixth grade) asked us to report on how many books we had read during the school year. Most of us said between 2-4. Margaret said 65! I was dumbfounded and instantly felt inadequate. Holy buckets! 65 "chapter books"! Quite the feat. It challenged me to read more and do to this day. Margaret always set the bar higher for all of us when it came to academics and learning.

Rest In Peace with a good book while basking out in nature, Margaret. Thanks for being you.

Colleen was a one of a kind - so much personality wrapped up in one person. I saw her a few times after high school and her vibrant nature was always present. I admired her quick wit, ability to be silly, brilliant intelligence, courage to speak up, adventurous spirit, amazing accomplishments, and her kindheartedness.  You can't help but smile when you think of her.  After reading all the comments on mykeeper, she was clearly loved by those who knew her no matter where she took root - both here and around the world. Colleen will be missed by many but there is no doubt she is off on a new adventure finding family, seeing old friends, and making new ones - in another realm. Have fun, Colleen!  Enjoy the next journey - and thanks for all you gave to this world. ??

Rest in heaven, Orv.  You were always very nice all throughout the years while we were growing up in Mankato  -  both in school and at church.  So glad you found peace, quiet, and beauty at Silver King Mine.  We will miss you but remember you at the reunion.

When I remember Anne from church and high school, I see her constant big smile, hear her quick laugh and friendly words, feel her high energy and her heart full of kindness.  A lovely person that the world will miss.

Be free, Anne, and enjoy the next journey!  I am sure you are already leading heaven in a rousing cheer.

I will always remember you, Jim, as having a devilish twinkle in your eye and a big, cute smile on your face.  You were so fun, a star athlete, and helped bring good energy to our class. Hoping you are having a great time wherever you are...tossing a few touch downs, hitting some home runs, catching a few fish, and munching on a Nut Goodie while hanging with your buddy, Sitka.  Enjoy the peace, Jim.
