What have I been doing since 1969? Wow...lots!!!
Teaching kids and teaching teachers for 31 years, volunteering, working on social justice stuff, seeing family and friends, meeting lots of new people from all walks of life, gardening, remodeling my home, hanging out with my two loves - a jack russell terrier and a basenji, traveling all over the USA and several countries, reading and watching movies (a favorite past time). Have been very adventurous - lots of experiences and risks that will give me great memories and stories to tell when I am lounging in a retirement home - probably in Mankato! Love life and all it has to offer.
Currently, I serve as president of the Minneapolis Teacher union - about 3300 teachers. Really political and intense and I feel honored to be in this position. No plans to retire yet!

School Story:

Where to begin....maybe the day we had a wild water pistol fight in Roger Frank's speech class while he was out having a cigarette. Those of us involved were soaking wet but all in our seats sitting quietly when he returned. He looked at us while walking back to his desk and calmly said, "Glad to see you were busy during my absence." And, then we got back to work.

When I remember Anne from church and high school, I see her constant big smile, hear her quick laugh and friendly words, feel her high energy and her heart full of kindness.  A lovely person that the world will miss.

Be free, Anne, and enjoy the next journey!  I am sure you are already leading heaven in a rousing cheer.

I will always remember you, Jim, as having a devilish twinkle in your eye and a big, cute smile on your face.  You were so fun, a star athlete, and helped bring good energy to our class. Hoping you are having a great time wherever you are...tossing a few touch downs, hitting some home runs, catching a few fish, and munching on a Nut Goodie while hanging with your buddy, Sitka.  Enjoy the peace, Jim.

Sally,

I told you some of this in a card last year but want to share again here.

You were one of the genuinely nicest people I have ever met. You were so brave and patient throughout your life and gave of your time to others with compassion.  Thanks for the grace and kindness you shared with all.

So sorry your life was shortened -  you will live on in the hearts of many.  We were all lucky to have met you.

Now, you can rest.

Lynn:

You have had an amazing run... done great things, helped many people, stood up for what's right.

Keep it up... we got a long ways to go before we all get older. Meanwhile, let's use what we have learned to make things better... that's one definition of "wisdom".

A bunch of us have be very privileged to share the journey will you and a collection of other amazing folks.

Avante.. oh, ya, and Happy Birthday!

As you head off to another journey...

You made much of your life - so sorry it had to end early.  You can be proud of what you accomplished and who you became.  Family man, great education, life long career that allowed you to give back to community, fun interests, and being a good person. Well done!  We will miss seeing you at the reunions.  Condolences to your family and peace to you.  Bye, Joe.

My first memory of Gene was in first grade at Wahington Elementary.  For some reason, our first grade class was visiting the other first grade class across the hallway.  During that walk through, I innocently "made eyes" (had no idea that I was flirting) at Gene and it created quite a commotion.  Gene made a whoop and climbed under his desk - as a signal he liked the attention of a 6 year old girl he barely knew.  The teacher, of course, got after him but I can still see it clear as day now that we made a silly, young-hearted connection.  It was a sweet and funny moment in time.  From then on, Gene and I were, like many of you, friends throughout the rest of our school days.  Not close but always friendly and warm with one another.  We chatted at our reunions a bit and still "flirted" innocently all these years later.  He was a man of his own making; he followed his path as he wished; said what he thought; did what he wanted.  Not many in life can say that.  Carry on, Gene, wherever your spirit lands.   We were all happy to have known you.

Blessings to you, Rich...Junior...as you travel forward.  May peace, comfort and joy be yours in your next journey.  Thank you for being a part of the 1969 MHS family all those years ago.

So sorry to hear of Gary's passing.  What I remember about Gary from all those years ago is that he was a good person and friendly.  I am sad that his heart was broken so early in life.  They say the death of one's child is something you never get over.  Blessings to you, Gary, as you join your son.  May your next journey be happier and lighter.
